In alignment with the Career Connections tier of the DEAP program, the NextUp Mentoring program is a professional mentoring initiative exclusively for upperclassmen participants. The NextUp Mentoring Program is designed to support interested DEAP Scholars in the attainment of their post-graduation goals. Participants are paired with a professional mentor from the IU Indianapolis campus community or their desired field of study to support them in navigating their personal and professional transition upon graduation.
Participants will achieve the following objectives:
- Establish a supportive, trusting, and productive mentoring relationship
- Establish a mutually beneficial relationship through effective goal setting, developing problem-solving skills, leadership ability, effective communication skills, etc.
- Identify, anticipate, and overcome internal and external obstacles to success
- Increase the overall motivation and confidence of the mentee
- Address noncognitive factors that may impact the mentee’s academic and career success
Participant Commitments
Mentor Commitment
- Attend a mandatory orientation session
- Meet with your mentee a minimum of 8 hours each semester
- Complete a mid-semester survey
- Complete a conclusion survey
Scholar Commitment
- Attend a mandatory orientation session
- Meet with your mentee a minimum of 8 hours each semester

- Complete a conclusion survey
- Attend 2 DEAP-facilitated workshops over the semester
